Our Pastor

Pastor's Message

Welcome to the website of the Calvary Baptist Church.

I am a Scioto County Native. All but nine years of my life I have called this area my home.  In that time, I have been able to see the nearly 100,000 people that desperately need a witness.  It is the goal of our church to reach each and every person for God and his glory.

I am now in my 19th year as the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church and I must say that our God has truly been faithful.  God has allowed us to see the great need our region has for the work and Word of God.  Though many would say that the economy, or the prevalence of drugs and crime are the problem with our region, we believe that those are only symptoms of the greater problem.  The problem with our region is that there is an absence of Christ.  Nearly 80 percent of the people in Scioto County say that they have a church home but less than 10 percent attend that church faithfully.  This is a trend that must be reversed.  It is this problem that the Calvary Baptist Church has committed itself to address and change.

Our church is in the heart of the Ohio River Valley and is easily accessible from Scioto, Pike, Lawrence and Greenup counties.  We have made a commitment to reach each family in the surrounding region that God has given us.  We invite you to come and visit us and pray about your part in God's work.

Our Faith

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Bible, as it is in truth, the Word of God... (I Thessalonians 2:13). We believe in verbal, plenary inspiration in the original writings, and God's preservation of His pure words to every generation (II Timothy 3:16, Psalms 12:6-8). The Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text of the New Testament (Textus Receptus) are those texts of the original languages we accept and use; the King James Version of the Bible is the only English version used from the pulpit and in teaching. The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice.
